Ace of Cups: Abundance Mindset and Impostor Syndrome

Hello Guys and Dolls!

Summer is on full blast here. It is stiflingly hot and heavy and humid, so to beat the heat my man and I have been spending a lot of time at the pool. Spending all this time in the water has brought forth an abundance of Cups energy. The Kind of Cups is on display on my desk at home and he may just stay there until the end of the summer.

The suit of cups has so much to teach me recently about Abundance mindset. In my personal and professional life, I have been bumping up against poverty mindset which has most recently taken the form of Impostor Syndrome. Anyone who is on a creative path - writer, photographer, painter, musician - will come up against Impostor Syndrome at some point in their journey. It happens to the best of us and you are not alone.

I hit this wall recently myself. I would sit down to write a blog post and suddenly come up blank. I would find inspiration and then I would think "so-and-so already talked about this" or "I am sure someone else has come to this same conclusion". I would try to work on my novel and everything I wrote would sound repetitive or unoriginal. My creative functions went on lock-down.

Impostor syndrome is the child of poverty mindset. The idea that there is not enough. The assumption that there are not enough ideas to go around of that there are only so many pieces of the pie.

Abundance mindset teaches us that there is more than enough to go around. There are infinite possibilities for creation and a million and one different ways to look at the same subject. No one is you, with your own unique perspective. Add to the conversation and raise your voice. We live in an beautifully abundant and infinite universe.

Being in the water helped plug me in to the Ace of Cups energy - abundance, overflow, giving, open heartedness, joy, love, plenty. I have barely scratched the surface of what I can give to you, my readers and clients. I am just getting started!

If you find yourself stuck in a similar mindset, try this exercise. Get a piece of paper and list some things you enjoy. Hobbies, books, music, food, games, movies, etc. Then try to connect them to your creative endeavor. For me, I am currently working on a POP TAROT series. You could decide you want to write a song inspired by Wizard of Oz or you may want to use your dinners and inspiration for your still-life. I know a woman who creates pop pantheon prayer candles and another who takes her daughter's scribbles and turns them into masterpieces. Have fun with it. You are unique and infinitely creative.

"Get out of your head and into your heart" the Ace says to me as I float lazily on my back in cool waters, "You have so much to give. Overflow my darling. Overflow."

XOXO
