Champagne & Caviar & The Empress

It has been a long time since I have let myself tap into that indulgent, sickeningly sweet, over-joyous & glamorous part of my nature. I definitely identify more with the Warrior Huntress & Inked Classic Rock Goddess parts of myself, but lately (and it might be Venus Retrograde) I feel the call of the Empress.

The Empress is Queen of Indulgence. She is shopping designer labels with a glass of champagne in her perfectly manicured hands. Her hair is piled as high as her standards, and we love her for that. She reminds us that we deserve it – and it doesn’t matter what your “it” is. She tells us that spending time on ourselves is important – when we feel our best we can give our best to the world.

The Empress takes societal “taboos” like seeking indulgence, plenty, beauty & revelry and turns it on its head. It isn’t taboo, it is as natural as it can be to want to drape yourself in fine silk, eat good food & drink something that sparkles.

Why do we deny that part of ourselves? Is it out of some twisted sense of martyrdom? Is it childhood programming gone awry? Both?

None of that matters to me anymore. The Empress has come running into my psyche and she isn’t leaving anytime soon. I don’t have any desire to play small or dim my light for anyone else’s comfort. And I certainly wont feel bad for pampering myself.

What can you do for yourself today for the pure purpose of having fun? What can you do to take care of yourself? What have you been putting off that you know you need? Where in your life can you let the Empress run the show?

Maybe cook yourself a decadent meal or draw yourself a bath with all the accouterments. Maybe make yourself a cup of tea and sit down with a really good book.

The truth is that the more you care, and pamper, yourself the easier it gets. The more you do the more you will want to do.

Isn’t that amazing?
